The Leisurist Weekend Guide: Cap Rocat, Mallorca

Some places are designed to make you explore. Others are designed to make you stay.

From the second you arrive at Cap Rocat you feel like you stepped into another world. Built into the cliffs of Mallorca overlooking the Mediterranean, the former fortress with only 30 rooms and suites feels intimate, peaceful and effortlessly luxurious. Days here move slowly, in the best way possible.

Cap Rocat is one of those rare hotels where the property itself is the destination. While Mallorca has plenty to explore, it's surprisingly easy to spend an entire weekend here without ever feeling the need to leave. Between the sea, the spa, incredible food, bike rides, and quiet corners overlooking the Mediterranean, there's more than enough to fill your days. This is the kind of hotel where the best plan is no plan at all.

A day at Cap Rocat

One of the details that makes the experience feel so special is breakfast.  While you can have breakfast in the courtyard, you can also order breakfast the night before and it’s delivered directly to your suite, where you can enjoy it inside or on one of your private terraces overlooking the water.

After breakfast you can start the day with morning yoga overlooking the pool and sea before spending the day moving between the ocean, the spa, and long stretches by the pool. You can ride bikes through the property, swim in the Mediterranean directly below the cliffs, or spend hours at the spa. Even without booking a treatment, the spa itself is worth spending time in. Relax in the hammam, spend time at the gym, or swim in the indoor pool carved into the fortress.

As the sun starts to set, head down to the Sea Club for cocktails or dinner overlooking the bay before ending the night with live music and drinks at the lobby bar.

The best days here rarely involve rushing anywhere.

If You Leave the Resort

You honestly may not want to.

But if you do venture out, keep the pace slow.

By Boat

Cap Rocat can arrange private boat charters around the island, making it one of the best ways to experience Mallorca from the water.

Spend the day moving between quiet coves, swimming in crystal-clear water, and stopping at beach clubs or seaside restaurants before heading back to the resort as the sun starts to set.

Historic Train Ride to Sóller

One of the best ways to experience Mallorca is by taking the historic wooden train from Palma to Sóller, winding slowly through the mountains and countryside of the island. The ride itself feels like stepping into another era, passing citrus groves, stone villages, and some of the most beautiful scenery on the island.

Once you arrive in Sóller, spend a few hours wandering the small streets, stopping for coffee, fresh orange gelato, browsing the local shops, or take the vintage tram down to Port de Sóller for lunch overlooking the water.

Palma

Palma is worth leaving the resort for — at least for an afternoon.

Spend the afternoon wandering Palma’s old streets near the cathedral, stopping into small boutiques, ceramic shops, and linen stores before settling into a long lunch or late cocktails as the city starts to slow into the evening.

Where to Eat in Palma

El Camino
One of Palma’s best spots for a long lunch or late dinner, El Camino is known for its counter-style seating, incredible tapas, and lively atmosphere that still somehow feels intimate. Order slowly, stay longer than planned, and let the evening unfold from there.

Fera Palma
Set inside one of the prettiest courtyards in the city, Fera Palma blends Mediterranean and Asian influences in a way that feels elevated without being overly formal. It’s the kind of place that works just as well for cocktails and appetizers as it does for a full dinner after wandering Palma’s old streets.

Then head back to Cap Rocat before sunset. It’s still the best place to end the day.
